It was such a humbling experience, to once again be in the Synagogue for Iftar, the meal we eat when we break our fast. I have been connected to Alyth Synagogue since the start of their nine years of doing this. The best aspect of it is the care they show and their extra effort to make sure it all goes well and that we, their Muslim guests, are comfortable and well looked after.

This year we also had the added extra of being together to launch #ThankYouDay into the faith communities. Encouraging everyone to get involved in this national day, on Sunday 5th June, combining with the Queen’s Jubilee weekend. I am excited because I really do think it will feel like everyone is having one big party!

Faith communities are integral to our country and we have seen that brought into sharp focus even more during the last two years of the pandemic. We have so much to thank our volunteers, congregations, neighbours and friends for, let’s use Thank You Day to really do that in whatever way works best.

Mosques are inviting their local Christian neighbours to break bread together, neighbours from different backgrounds will be walking together to their local Big Jubilee Lunch and people will be saying ‘thank you’ in different languages and sharing food that is important and special to them. All are welcome at the Jubilee table!

Get involved, see the Thank You Day website for more info and helpful resources.
